Cold rooms can also be disinfected using UVC
However, a cold and humid environment places high demands on the UVC lamp and its operation, making it necessary to use a specally designed lamp developed for these conditions.
Several mounting options can be used in cold rooms:
- Mounted directly at the evaporator
- Mounted on walls and/or ceilings – perhaps as a recessed solution as seen in the kitchen at Slagelse Hospital:

This installation maximizes the lamp’s geometry and ensures all surfaces are illuminated. In this setup, the UVC lamps are connected to the building management system (CTS), which controls and monitors their operation. Safety features include light and sound alarms that warn before the UV lamps are activated, as well as door contacts that prevent unintended access to the rooms while the lamps are on.
The UVC lamps are typically switched on when the rooms are empty, such as during breaks or after staff have left for the day.
