UV cleans and disinfects

At Natdis we offer tailored solutions with UV-light to clean and disinfect water, air and surfaces. UVC-disinfection fights bacteria, viruses and fungal spores without leaving chemical residues behind. Read more about how it works below.

What is UV-light?

UV-light is a general term for several wavelength ranges that covers UVA, UVB and UVC.  For disinfection, we only use UVC-light as this wavelength has the ability to damage the DNA and RNA in a cell structure, which is essential for removing bacteria and viruses.

When we expose unwanted microorganisms to UVC-light, the UVC photons break the hydrogen bonds in their DNA or RNA. This prevents the cell from reproducing, and it will thereby inactivate and die.

UVC-light can be used to remove bacteria in air, liquids and on surfaces.  We have different types of equipment for the different purposes to ensure that bacteria are reduced effectively.

How are objects disinfected with UVC-light?

When objects are disinfected with UVC-light, we use a special lamp which consists of a tube containing gas.  Each end of the tube has an electrode and a cathode. The lamp works by creating a spark between the electrode and the cathode, heating up the gas and light is generated.

Simply switching on the lamp is not enough – we need something to control the temperature of the lamp. This is why our UVC-lamps always include a ballast / power supply to regulate their performance.

It is important that the lamp and the ballast are designed to work together. This ensures that when the ballast is powered, the lamp starts up the way it was designed to, in order for the lamp to disinfect the object consistently and effectively.

What are the advantages of cleaning with UVC- light?

There are several advantages to cleaning objects with UV-light. UVC-disinfection can inactivate bacteria and viruses without the need for added chemicals.

This also means that UVC-disinfection does not leave chemical residues and therefore does not need post-treatment such as wiping or ventilation. UVC-light is only active as long as the lamp is switched on. As soon as the lamp is switched off, no UVC radiation is emitted and the cleaned object is ready for use.

UV-cleaning for different purposes

At Natdis we offer UVC-disinfection solutions for air, liquids and surfaces.

Disinfection of surfaces is especially important in environments where many people touch the same objects during the day, as it increases the risk of contamination.  If you need to disinfect products, conveyor belts or meeting room tables,  our surface disinfection solutions may be relevant.

If you need to treat the air in a room, such as production halls or offices, you can explore our air disinfection systems. We offer solutions for disinfection of rooms with continuous activity as well as for rooms where it is necessary to disinfect during breaks or after working hours.

Disinfecting liquids with UV-light is often easier than expected. With UVC-light, we can disinfect liquids such as juice, water or process water from systems such as cooling units.

Whether you need just one of the above mentioned solutions or a combination, we always take your specific requirements into consideration to ensure a set up that matches your company’s processes and needs.
