Focus on hand hygiene in food production
Hands are one of the main sources of bacterial spread in production environments.

At the same time, bacteria can be transferred from:
- Surfaces and equipment
- Workwear and gloves
- Door handles, machines, and tools
- Personal habits such as touching the face or nose
That’s why proper hand hygiene is essential to ensure both product safety and a safe working environment.
Hands-on training and increased awareness
The training program was based on real-life situations from the employees’ daily work and focused on:
- When hand washing and hand disinfection are required
- How bacteria spread in production environments
- The importance of performing hand hygiene correctly
Proper handwashing and disinfection
A key part of the training focused on demonstrating and practicing correct hand hygiene. Employees learned how proper hand washing removes dirt and organic material, while hand disinfection helps eliminate bacteria and viruses.
It was clearly shown that effective hand hygiene requires both the right technique and enough time. Proper hand washing takes around 35 seconds—a small effort that can significantly reduce the risk of contamination in production.
Practical training with visual impact
To make the training more engaging and easy to understand, employees took part in hands‑on exercises. Using simulated contamination (e.g., glow lotion), they could see how well their hands were cleaned—and where areas were often missed.
This visual approach made it clear how easily bacteria can remain on the hands, and how important correct technique really is.
Improved hand hygiene in daily operations
The training program provided Danish Crown with:
- Increased awareness of hand hygiene among employees
- Improved understanding of contamination pathways in production
- Better execution of hand washing and disinfection practices
- A stronger foundation for food safety
Hand hygiene is a simple yet critical factor in reducing the risk of contamination—and training ensures it is performed correctly every time.
